Urban Futures
Urban Futures Exhibition and Symposium
In 2009 i was honoured to be involved in the Urban Futures ‘Ideas of the city’ exhibition at the UTS gallery and accompanying symposium held at Customs House in Sydney. Urban Futures was a five-week exhibition at the UTS gallery featuring a body of architectural and urban work representative of some of the most internationally innovative spatial and material thinking of today. It’s featured work was a collection of architectural models, drawings and diagrams made up of the accumulated output of a series of yearlong workshops undertaken by students of architecture at the Architectural association in London.
Concurrently a symposium was held on 4th May 2009 during the exhibition period titled Urban Futures ‘Architectural type and the Urban Plan’ which i was also involved in hosting. The symposium focused around discussion and forums about architectural type and the urban plan is the idea that for diversity to flourish in the production of our cities, a framework indexed with a wide range of possibilities must be in place to absorb a more varied constituency of stakeholders and to galvanise consensus for action.
Guest speakers included: Chris Lee (AA London), Sam Jacoby (AA London), Tarsha Finney (UTS, Sydney), Adrian Lahoud (UTS, Sydney), Gerard Reinmuth (Terrior, Sydney), Nicholas Wolff (CEO Frasers, Sydney)
